NYS Capitol BuildingMember Services

From lobbying on behalf of the newspaper industry in the New York State Legislature, to journalism and advertising contests, to training, conferences and educational programs, NYNPA offers its members a wide variety of essential services.

Learn more about the services we offer our members below.

Lobbying

NYNPA President Diane Kennedy is a registered lobbyist who monitors the New York State Legislature on behalf of the newspaper industry. She is tasked with keeping a watchful eye on all legislation that could affect our members and the industry as a whole.

News Media Literacy/Newspapers in Education

Newspapers in Education (NIE) is a worldwide effort in which school textbooks and teaching materials are supplemented with the use of the local newspaper. The habit of reading a newspaper provides the necessary practice to build reading and writing skills and develop an interest in the welfare of one's community--valuable skills and attitudes to carry students through life. Increaingly, News Media Literacy is the focus of our educational efforts with students K-16, their educators and the general public. For more information on NYNPA's award-winning programs and available presentations contact Mary Miller at mmiller@nynpa.com or browse our downloadable resources here.

Public Notice Promotional Ads

Some officials want to move notices from newspapers to government-run websites, where they may not be easily found. This is like putting the fox in charge of the hen house. Download and run News Media Alliance's public notice ads supporting keeping public notices in print newspapers. There are three ad designs available below in full- and quarter-page sizes. Both PDF and EPS file formats are provided. The ads can be customized with your newspaper’s logo. Visit newsmediaalliance.org to download these promotional ads.

Competitions

Each year, NYNPA recognizes newspapers and their staff members for their hard work in service to the fine art of newspapering with its annual Awards for Excellence Competition. NYNPA also administers NYNAME's annual Advertising Competition. Learn more about both competitions through the link below.
